A good security system is the marriage of quality equipment and a logical design. Security systems usually have a "shelf life" of 5-7 years due to changes in industry and manufacture standards. Good security equipment works well for a long time. Unfortunately, most people discover the quality of the equipment after it is installed in their home or business. The design is often dependant on the price. An optimal security design will provide several layers of protection.

Burglar Alarm Systems

A Security System designed by Progressive Technology is driven by two questions:
What or where needs to be protected? Whether you need to protect your Family, Information, Assets, Inventory, the Design of your Burglar Alarm System should be driven by these needs.

Where is your home or office vulnerable to intrusion? All buildings are susceptible to being burglarized. This needs to be accounted for in the design of a system.

All Progressive Technology Salesmen have installed systems with their own hands, and are required to undertake rigorous training and testing. So, you can trust that our system design will leverage advanced security technology and experience to isolate protection on important and vulnerable areas.

Security System Equipment

Security Devices fall into 3 categories: Detection, Notification and Control.

Detection Devices

Notification Devices

Control Devices

Manufacturers

Door and Window Contacts
Motion Detectors
Glassbreak Detectors
Panic Buttons
Security Screens
Tamper Switches

Strobes
Sirens
Dispatch Signal

Keypads
Control Panels

Contacts should be used used at points-of-entry, and the system should include several strategically placed infrared and/or glassbreak detectors. Detection Devices use sensor technology to "trip" an alarm if they are set-off, at which point Notification Devices are set off. When set off, a signal is sent to a dispatch station over a phone line. This signal includes information about the alarm situation, and a dispatcher reacts according to a pre-set protocol. To combat false alarms, the dispatcher will call several people to verify that the signaled alarm was not an accident.

Wired or Wireless Security Equipment?

Wireless technology has become a blessing and a curse for security installation companies and their clients. Good wireless receivers and detectors perform relatively reliably. However, several installation companies offer discounted systems with unreliable wireless equipment. Why? A wireless security system can be installed in much less time, and the dysfunctional equipment is can rack up service charges. The consensus among quality installation companies is that wireless equipment has its place, but only with quality brands and only when it doesn't make sense to hardwire.
