Contacts should be used used at points-of-entry, and the system should include several strategically placed infrared and/or glassbreak detectors. Detection Devices use sensor technology to "trip" an alarm if they are set-off, at which point Notification Devices are set off. When set off, a signal is sent to a dispatch station over a phone line. This signal includes information about the alarm situation, and a dispatcher reacts according to a pre-set protocol. To combat false alarms, the dispatcher will call several people to verify that the signaled alarm was not an accident.
Wired or Wireless Security Equipment?
Wireless technology has become a blessing and a curse for security installation companies and their clients. Good wireless receivers and detectors perform relatively reliably. However, several installation companies offer discounted systems with unreliable wireless equipment. Why? A wireless security system can be installed in much less time, and the dysfunctional equipment is can rack up service charges.
